Hi everyone, I own a 1997 Coachmen Prospera 285rks, overall 30' long. I tow with a 1999 F250 4x4 superduty diesel. The problem is that the angle of the fifth wheel is not level when I tow. I can lower my 5th wheel hitch one more positon, but then I run into the problem of not enough clearance around the bed rails and the bottom of the 5th wheel camper. I was wondering if I can raise the campers suspension to compansate for the uneveness, or should I try to lower the rear suspension of the truck. I do have overload springs on the truck and it does sit up higher than the front, about 2-3" higher because the rear springs. I know lowering the rear of the truck would be easier. Just want some replys on suggestions. Thanks everyone.

We used to tow a 32' HH-II with a 1997 F-250 and ended up lowering the hitch plate in the truck to get the fifth wheel level. The clearance was closer than usual but no worse than it had been when the rig was nose high. We did have to watch out for bad dips and take them at an angle or find ways to avoid them.

You also could change the axles on the trailer so they are under the springs instead of springs under the axle. But if you do that be sure to use new U-bolts so the threads set in and stay tight. I know some say you can reuse the old ones but believe me that is not true. When you tighten that type U-bolt it warps the threads so they are set and don't come loose. Also be sure the axles are not at an angle from one side to the other or the tire wear will be affected. But it cn be done.
